This website shows you how to build a wooden storage shed in 10 steps.
Click on any link and it will take you directly to a page detailing that step.
- Step 1, Foundation: This is what the shed sits on and keeps it from moving around. The foundation section is common to all shed styles.
- Step 2, Floor: You have 3 floor choices: Earth (no floor), wood, concrete. These floor sections are common to all shed styles.
- Step 3, Trusses: Depending on the roof line you are building: Regular gable, deluxe gable, barn style (gambrel). The lean to style single slope sheds uses rafters which require no fabrication.
- Step 4, Walls: Building the 4 walls that use single top plates. Double top plate walls are slightly different.
- Step 5, Door: You can build a single or double door on any shed style. This section is common to all sheds.
- Step 6, Raise and attach walls: Putting the 4 walls together.
- Step 7, Open the door: Cut the preframed door out of the wall. This section is common to all shed styles.
- Step 8, Frame the roof: Install the trusses and sheet the roof. Regular gable roof sheds are simple and the the deluxe gable and tall barn style shed roofs are more complicated.
- Step 9, Trim: Installing the trim is similar in many respects for all sheds. Building with overhang adds an extra few steps to the trim process.
- Step 10, Shingle roof: Installing shingles is common to all shed roofs except the lean to style which requires rolled roof or metal roof.
