FAQ: Roof Sheeting Layout

Question:

I purchased your Tall shed plans and I have the floor and trusses already built, 8’ wide x 12’ Long. The only thing I’m not straight on is the layout of sheeting the roof for the best use of material.

With each end wall pushed out 1/2 inch for the siding overhang, can you use 12 ft and have the drip edge still provide a little overhang? Or do I need to go the other orientation to create sheeting an overall length of 12’ 1” or more?

Answer:

The drip edge will cover the 1/2 inch gap at the edge of the sheeting with no problem. And if you use a “D” style it will give you 1/2 inch overhang beyond the trim.

Question

If you trim out the corners and roof lines we will need even more overhang of the sheeting.

Answer:

If you bring the trim up to the top of the roof sheeting it will help support the drip edge. That will leave a 1/2 inch gap between the trim and roof sheeting that the drip edge will cover since it’s about 2 or 2 1/2 inches wide.
