Do you start or finish a wall with the 1/2 sheet of siding?

Question:

On a 10’ shed side wall the siding needs 2 ½ sheets. So were do u need to put the half sheet of 2’ siding, on the end or in the middle?

Answer:

It depends on the lip on the half piece of siding you are using.

You will probably start the first wall with 2 full sheets and cut the last piece in half. Then when you build the next 10ft wall you will use that half first, then install 2 full sheets.

That’s because the lip is different on each end of the siding. The “under” lip has to go under another piece, so you will start with it. The “over” lip goes over the other piece so you will install it over another piece of siding.
